My 1st "Tag, you're it!"

I make tags 75% of the time, so it's high time I play at Tag, You're It!  It is a CAS tag challenge, so I hope they don't banish me to the island of misfit scrappers-- I don't do much that's "clean"!

Here is my tag:

Here is the tag inspiration for the current challenge:

Supplies and notes:
  • Library catalog card for the base...check out the book title... BONUS POINTS!  I coated the card roughly with Tim's Distress Vintage Collage Medium and edged it with ColorBox Chalk in Creamy Brown
  • I used one of Tim's stamps of the flag, which I first stamped into Ground Espresso from my big Tim Holtz Mixed Media ink pad, then second-gen stamped onto another old library catalog card for a more faded version
  • The second-gen flag was coated with Tim's Distress Crazing Collage Medium and set aside.  Later, when dried and crackled, I "colored" it gently with Distress Crayons in Festive Berries, Chipped Sapphire, and Picket Fence, then smudged it in with a damp finger.  I may have licked my finger to smudge.  Don't remember.  Eventually, I popped this flag up with dimensional, but before that, I...
  • ...used some red, white, and blue ribbon from my stash and soaked it in a mixture of Distress Stain in Vintage Photo and good mountain water, then let it dry in the sun.  When dry it was attached to the tag with two gold Recollections brads.
I'll take this moment on Memorial Day weekend to share my gratitude for all the people serving in the United States military, and recognize that many have paid the ultimate price serving and protecting not only United States citizens and interests, but also those around our small world.  The best way to show respect to those who have died is to honor them, and support their friends and family here.  I, personally, will drink a toast to those who have died, and I hope to attend the annual service in our small town cemetery.

  3. This is such a great vintage looking tag. I love that the base of it is an actual card from the library. Nice way to upcycle! Thanks for playing along with us at Tag You're It!

  4. Fantastic tag, for some reason, it reminds me of a postcard :)

  5. OK, so let me get this straight, are you a kinsman 'more is more' creator? Love every element on your library card tag. Beautifully assembled. Hope to see more of your lovelies in coming weeks! Hugs, and thanks for playing along at TYI!

  8. Yes, my incredibly talented friend, it IS about time you joined this challenge *grin* Your tags (and everything else) are always inspired, always impressive; this little gem is no exception! I see a CASilicious take on Bobby's inspiration. The ribbons: brilliant! So glad you shared your creativity in the Tag You're It gallery!
PS. A zillion apologies for my sporadic, spotting commenting! I'm in the throes of woeful disorganization (sadly, becoming a perpetual state, I fear! Grrrr....), but with each post that appears on my Feedly, a thought bubble filled with admiration and delight is sent your way. Hope you're catching them! Your talents and friendship: truly treasured!! I'll aim to let you know that more often!

  9. It's not overloaded, it looks quick to make so to some it covers the rules of CAS. Sometimes I'm in doubt myself, but we'll never learn unless we try:) to me it works and it looks cool

  10. Beautiful tag! Love all the details you incorporated, especially that you treated the ribbon!
