My second Sketch Saturday

Here is my second interpretation of Sketch Saturday #394:

Supplies:

• Gorgeous Grunge SU! set stamped into some Chipped Sapphire Distress Paint.  My initial instinct would be to use Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain on the stamp, but the stain is not as true-to-color as the paint, and I also feel like the stain bleeds strangely.  I like the paint.
• The stickers are all from a sheet of embossed stickers by We R Memory Keepers... I love this sheet.  It's called "Inked Rose."  That makes me think of a tattooed circus lady or biker chick or something!  "Hey, Inked Rose asked for a shot of whiskey!"
• The yellow is just the envelope, but since it is so cute with the card, I wanted to show it. 

Sketch Saturday Numero Uno

Here's my first attempt at the current Sketch Saturday Challenge:

My oldest goes to summer camp every year... the same summer camp I went to and eventually worked at :), except when I was a camper, I only got to go one week per summer.  My oldest goes 2 to 3 times a summer, and this year my youngest *might* go (she is on the younger side... might not be ready in June...)!  Anyway, I hammer the kids with mail so then they have to sing songs and do silly things at mail-call, so I'm getting the jump on the cards!  Ahhh, happiness is harassing your kids!

Supplies and notes:

• Crate Paper paper from years ago... (Autumn... you feel me on the Crate Paper love???)
• Studio Calico stars... I just bought those after xmas, and those are all going to be gone soon... I am loving them.  I think I'm going to make earrings out of them.
• I dropped some random Rose Quartz Liquid Pearls among the stars
• The stamped sentiment is from Recollections inked in Memories ink in Sand.
• I edged the Core'dinations white and the Crate Paper with Weathered Wood Distress Paint
• I think in hindsight I'd adjust the cant of the panels a bit more.

Hello, Kelly Jo!

Here's my little card... I named the stamp "Kelly Jo" because it looks like one of my besties:

I plan to enter this into Try Stampin' On Tuesday (it is their sketch, afterall), and a Brown Sugar #180 as an Anything Goes!  I've watched both of these challenge blogs for a long time, and I'm also impressed with the variety of styles and projects they attract.  And then there's Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge: Something New + Tim Holtz. Always an amazing and extensive entry pool-- I love perusing the SSS linky list towards the end of a challenge... it's like a never-ending treasure trove of crafty goodness.

I'm having a heck of a time with my pictures... too much sun, nighttime, poor indoor set-up.  I have pinned a few lightboxes on Pinterest... now I just need to build one!  Bear with me.  Or complain.  Then I'll really get my act together out of sheer shame.  Craft shame.

Supplies & notes:

• The background was yet another background made in a flurry of stenciling a few days ago.  I used a Heidi Swapp stencil with Tim's Broken China Distress Stain and Scattered Straw Distress Ink.  I was using all kinds of stenciling and smooshing techniques.  You can see I sopped-up a bunch of the Broken China on this one with great results.
• I stamped the Kelly Jo stamp (Hero Arts) in MementoLuxe, and did the same with the "Hello" stamp, which was a cheapie from Target.  Loves ittt....
• I outlined the card with a black pen... actually, one of those K & Company Smashbook pens because I knew the tip was unforgiving and would yield a broken and rough line
• I added some Ranger Glossy Texture Past with the same stencil for visual interest.  I made no attempt to line the stencil up.
• The rhinestones were a gift from my sis for xmas.  NEWNESS!  They appear to be from Michael's.  
• Here's a note:  if I were to recreate this card exactly, I'd add a touch of orange ink, and I'd gently distress the edges of the panel with water, just for a more watery look.  (And every time I type "watery" I think of the Sex Pistols song SubMission... "Can't figure out your watery love...")

• The background was the result of some inky fun I was having with a NEW Heidi Swapp Stencil used with not-so-new Broken China Distress Stain and Scattered Straw Distress Ink... plus some water through a mister
• The crepe flowers are NEW, made by my homegirl Martha Stewart.  I love these... you will see them again, soon...
• The sentiment is from my homeboy Tim... not new, but never-been-used... which is like new! (Gives the same joy as using a new product!)
• DCWV and Core'dinations paper
• Scribbles puff paint in yellow for my pearls... hey, it works!

Supplies and notes:

• Heidi Swapp stencil
• Broken China Distress Stain and Scattered Straw Distress Ink
• I went to town with the two above supplies... I was stamping and stenciling and pressing and smooshing like crazy.  For this card, I used the inks on my craft-mat, then pressed the stencil into it, then flipped the stencil over, misted it a tad-bit, and smooshed my paper into it. Different smooshed for different folks!
• Recollections stamp inked with MementoLuxe in black
• Fiskars corner punch
• Viva Paper Pearls in Anthracite

Sorry about the pictures... we actually had SUN... apparently I couldn't see the images I was snapping until after I loaded them!  (They seem super-bright).

Simon Monday: Somethin' New

Here is this fabulous card!:

The challenge was "Something New" over at Simon Says Stamp on Mondays.  I bought the sequin strand and stencil over xmas.  And I received the paper over xmas.  Newness.  Newness everywhere!

Supplies and notes:

• Gold sequin strand from Target dollar bins... my latest-favoritest.
• The flags were cut from some vellum that I'd stamped with a carved pencil eraser dipped into Liquid leaf last year. I glittered the edges with Distress Glitter in Antique Linen (my fave glitter ever)
• The Catrina stamp set is MY 100% FAVE stamp set ever from Invoke.  I think it's called the Calavera Catrina Paper Doll... or something like that.  I got it years ago from a shop in Berkeley, CA, that is now closed :(  I stamped her with MementoLuxe, double-tapped.  I stamped her top onto a nice pale pink from K & Company and popped it up.  I fancied-up her hat with Liquid Pearls in Rose Gold... that is also pretty new. I ordered it during The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Black Friday sale. 
• I love what the Catrina stands for-- read about it HERE, and see what it says to you.
• The stencil in the background is Heidi Swapp.  I used Victorian Velvet Distress Ink with a taddy-bit of water, then sprayed with Perfect Pearls in gold
• The paper came in a DCWV stack I received for xmas

I will add an appropriate sentiment when the need arises-- and until then, I think I will set this up for my own personal inspiration... I love the colors and the feel of this. 

Try Stampin'... or NOT!

Here is my card for Try Stampin' On Tuesday:

I love this sketch!

And I LOVE the way this turned out. I absolutely love this card.  It is very simple, but there is something about it that I love!  It is very "me."  As I was making it, it was my Friday (Thursday), and I was having a cocktail in the shack, listening to Pandora's Modest Mouse Radio... and awesome old songs kept coming on!  Anyway, it was just about ideal.  Then my kids got back from basketball and came in and started talking to me about their lives. We had a great conversation about boys and friends-- well, my older was doing the talking, and my younger was doing what she does when the older talks about boys!  Haha.  Anyway, it was a great night to make a great card.

• Perfect Pearls mist in gold-- I had accidentally oversprayed a kraft card during another project... turned out perfect on this!
• And you know I am not "sentiment-al"... I can always do without a sentiment, and this is no exception.  I almost thought about adding a Tim Holtz basic "Thank You," but... nope.
