Mad with the insanity of books

This is fun, though it really needs the right recipient:

Supplies:

• This is a catalog card coated with Finnabair's crackle paste through Tiim's Typo stencil
• The card was then coated with Distress Stain in Aged Mahogany
• DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush rubbed over parts of the card
• Black Liquitex gesso dragged along the edges
• Gold thread from stash added behind Tim's photobooth friend, who was treated with a avriety of aging techniques
• The quote was cut from an old book and adhered with Distress Collage Medium in Matte.

• Card sprayed with Dylusions in Polished Jade, a Tattered Angels blue Glimmer Mist, and After Midnight
• Dina Wakley heart stamp inked with Dina's Mixed Media palette in Night on a scrap of thick acetate, then cut out and stitched on
• Quote written (multiple times) with the tail-end of my Signo
• Edges of the tag rubbed with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush

• Finnabair crackle paste applied with an old hotel room key through three different triangle stencils: two by Heidi Swapp and the lower-right stencil by Tim Holtz (I have a thing for geometric stencils...)
• Background dipped in DOx in Blueprint and Shaded Lilac
• Lavender mat paper by Core'dinations 
• Spellbinders cactus die cut from Canson Mix Media paper inked with Twisted Citron DOx
• Tim's "Congrats" cut from a scrap of Canson inked with Cracked Pistachio DOx
• Sequins from some trim from the thrift store adhered with Glossy Accents

This Happy Life

This was partially made a couple weeks ago, and I just unburied it and finished it this morning:

This will go to a friend of mine who is a biologist for Collins Pine Company, and her duties include the evening owl surveys.  I showed her this die when I got it and she LOVED it. 

Supplies:

• Ranger Distress tag coated with Distress Stain in Broken China, Iced Spruced, and Peeled Paint
• Tag then brushed with an uneven coat of Ranger Crackle Accents (FYI: I just get a new bottle and immediately take the tip off...)
• After Crackle Accents dried, I scribbled the upper portions with Picket Fence Distress Crayon and the lower portions were scribbled with Walnut Stain Distress Crayon and rubbed into the cracks.
• Owl cut with Tim's die on a scrap of brown paper and heat embossed with Ranger Potting Soil EP and Custer's Last Stamp EP in Pewter
• Tim's Quotations inked with Frayed Burlap DI and cut apart, then touched with a little Glossy Accents for additional adhesion

Good luck butterfly tag

Here's this:

Supplies:

• Background tag was made using all kinds of stuff...I am new the gelli-printing, and this tag has multiple layers of paints and stencils and stamped-on bubble-wrap and rubbed-on gold.  I mean, the thing is thick.  (FYI, generic acrylic paint, Distress paint, probably some gesso, and some Deco Art metallic lustre.)
• That butterfly panel was made on a Canson Mix Media paper scrap
• Butterflies stamped with Distress Embossing Ink and heat-embossed with Recollections in black 
• Color Bursts added with Indigo, Orange, and Burnt Orange
• The butterfly panel was sewn on with some black floss that was already on an awl on my desk
• Yellow flowers from Tim's 2nd wildflower set, already cut from yellow scrap
• "Luck" cut with Tim's diecut  from a scrap of black that was on my desktop
• The tiny "good" is from Tim's chitchat stickers
• Vintage seam binding from my stash

SOS: Chanson Papillon (butterfly!)

This week at Shopping Our Stash, Chris is our hostess, and she's chosen a theme for the challenge that is sure to draw a large crowd-- add a butterfly or two... or three... or four...!

I know that butterflies are many people's "thing"-- I do love them and appreciate them as a life form, but they are not necessarily my "thing" like birds or trees... however, when I started digging through my stash, I was surprised to find all kinds of snippets and a few stamps of butterflies! My focal, however, is a stencil:

Supplies:

• Butterfly stencil by Heidi Swapp 
• Stencil placed on Strathmore watercolor paper and sprinkled with Color Bursts.  Cut out when dry.
• Background is also Strathmore watercolor paper.  I used the butterfly mask that came with the stencil and applied Finnabair clear crackle paste around it (not my fave, so I am trying to use it up so I can try the Liquitex brand).   
• I then sprayed the panel with Dylusions in Pure Sunshine and inked it with Festive Berries DI through an old Heidi Swapp basket weave stencil
• I used a Signo white pen (that I am babying because it is low) for the border 
• Sentiment written with white Liquitex gesso
• Butterfly popped up with 3M dimensional adhesive

SOS: Mother's Day, 2018

Happy Tuesday!  Glad you could stop by!  This week at Shopping Our Stash, I am your hostess, and I am hoping you'll join me in making Mother's Day cards for the mothers in your life!

Your mom (or the practical mothers you know) would be pleased to know that you are "shopping your stash" and using what you already have to make her a fabulous card!  (My mom will be thrilled, and I can picture her nodding vigorously now...)

I made this card for my own dear mother.  I could not ask for a better mom, and I appreciate her more now than ever.  Just one reason is (as I often share) is that she is an artist and had all of us kids involved in art of all forms as we were growing up.  As a result, my siblings, cousin, and I are all artsy, though my brother and sister put me to shame! (And my cousin is a grown macho man and he is still crafty!)  Anyway, I would attribute any interest and skill that we have to her.

So... her card won't make any sense unless I explain it, so lemme 'splain: my mom has always had crystals in her kitchen window, and during the summer and fall months they flash rainbows all over her house!  She goes crazy about it!  She'll call as if they are migrating birds and say, "The rainbows are back!"  It brings a tear to my eye thinking about the special lady that she is!  So this card is a representation of her rainbows!

View #2: This is the normal view, but because of the dimension and the sunlight when I took this, that dark shadow at the bottom throws the balance off!

Ooh... ahh...

Supplies (a pretty stashy card...)

• The Sunburst die by Seth Apter was something I NEEDED in my life... and I barely use it.  Now that I made this card, I want to do more like it, using the die as a window.  Duh!  Anyway, I used the die with glitter paper from my scrap box.  This paper came from my kids' stash, which I just thinned out.
• The rhinestones are years old.
• The rainbowy paper is actually Tim's resist paper.  This was already cut down when I found it, and I decided to add the rainbows  by tapping DIs onto my mat (using the little corner of each mini pad), then spritzed and carefully inked the paper.  I used a paper towel to absorb any colors that got icky, then I dried and tried again.  I am pretty impressed how it turned out considering how icky some of the colors were from mixing!
• The words were cut from old discarded books.
• The whole panel was popped up with 3M dimensional adhesive.
• I added a scrap of acetate which was the cast-off from a kit as the glass in the window (which was needed to support the rhinestones because the gold paper is pretty flimsy)
• The background mat was from a paper pack sent with my subscription to Stampington mags.  This is perfect because it has faint script on it, which mirrors the faint script of Tim's resist paper!
