Shopping Our Stash: Card Shark

Welcome to another week of fun in the Blogland Sun... join me for a vacation to Blogland Vegas with the Shopping Our Stash people for this week's challenge:

Card Shark
We want you to use playing cards as inspiration for your creation.  Think hearts, clubs, spades, diamonds... or you can maybe stretch the boundary like me and use what you think of when you picture a playing card... (that's me... always against the grain!)  And, of course, visiting the Shopping Our Stash sharks will inspire you!

Here's my little project:

Appologies to my teamies... I have a friend who recently got into playing Bingo and her birthday was last week, so I had Bingo on the brain!  But to be fair, I do have a reject-project that was my first go... you can check it out below and then you'll forgive me for straying from the traditional card theme!

Supplies and notes:
  • The beautiful backgrond panel is from Creative Imaginations, 2012.  I roughed-up the edges and added Frayed Burlap DI
  • The bingo cards are cut from my only Tim Holtz paper pad.  It's funny: I love all of his stuff, but I find that I don't use his ephemera or paper... I believe this is because I like to use my own truly vintage stuff.  Anyway, I edged those babies with Frayed Burlap as well.  They were sewn to the background panel just at the top using a variety of machine stitches
  • The dots on the bingo cards are from DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush, added by dotting the end of an old pencil into it
  • The gems are from my stash, inked with Ranger Mushroom AI, adhered with Glossy Accents
  • The cute ribbon is a score from a booth at the local quilt show this weekend... I love it... I only have 3 yards... wahhhhhh...
  • The Adage Ticket is from Tim's collection.  I inked the edge with Frayed Burlap and it didn't do enough for my eye so I then daubed through a Heidi Swapp grid stencil and used a wet paintbrush to add a little aging.
  • I used Tim's technique for Shattered Stains for the crown which required the use of Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint plus Aged Mahogany and Orange Marmalade Distress Stain on a grungeboard crown that has been in my collection for years and years
  • I typed "Bingo Queen" onto an old catalog card and edged it with Stickles
Phew!  That's a lot of stuff!  Thanks for visiting, and I look forward to seeing where inspiration will take you for this challenge!  See you over at SOS!

Oh... here's the reject. No idea what I was thinking.  This should be the Design Team posterboy for "When Shopping Your Stash Goes Wrong":

LOVE is all you need

Busted these out this morning in the few minutes that I had between watering and heading to the beach:

Supplies and notes:

  • I grabbed the following colors of Ranger alcohol inks randomly: Red Pepper,  Wild Plum,  Purple Twilight, Ginger. With them,  I pounced onto some photo paper
  • Dina Wakley's heart stamps are a new acquisition, purchased for $4.99 at Tuesday Morning on Friday. I stamped it with Ranger Archival in Jet Black. Then I just cut 'em out and popped them up with dimensional.
  • The birdie on the one card is a Fiskars punch
I'd like to share these at Addicted to CAS.

...and here are the girls mocking the dab...

SoSS: I is for Inappropriate

What fun! I've been invited to be a guest designer at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers at for their current challenge!

Try not to choke on the mixed-drink disguised as a latte:

Here is my little offering for this hilarious challenge:

...so full of opportunities for utterly crass humor... I remain restrained...

I actually listed the sayings I was considering for my husband to choose from, and he chose this!  Funny: he didn't like the one about a man-period.  The other saying he liked was from a meme on Pinterest: "If you were a vegetable, you'd be a cabbitch."  Hmmmm.... wonder if he was trying to tell me something...

To make this card, I used utility lettering to mask my sentiment then went to town with Wild Plum and Red Pepper Alcohol Ink with some Gold Mixative.  I then used tweezers to pick off the stickers... kind of a pain in the a$$, but I don't think I'll shy away from this technique in the future-- it does look cool IRL. Next, I popped the panel onto some DCWV paper and added some iridescent red gems from DCWV... do they look like blood?  OMG, now *that's* inappropriate!

You wanna know what's more inappropriate?  My late posting is the result of me being on the road again for my BFF's bridal shower-- I think I'll give this card to her with a box of contraceptives!  LOL!  Thankfully,  I've just thought of that,  and the card is at home,  hours away,  so I won't embarrass the bride's "proper" guests or the groom's people... more mimosa, please...

My Favorite Things...

Wow,  for a chick who seldom does sketch challenges,  I am apparently on a kick!

Can't help it: the sketch-creating elves in the crafty corner of Bloglandia are coming up with some good stuff!

Here's a card inspired by a sketch:

...and here is that sketch, courtesy of My Favorite Things:

Supplies:

  • The inky background was a scrap used to protect my spray-box... how could I throw that away??? I found it over the weekend with my DP and pulled it out until a project called it's name... and though this is not as clean as most MFT submissions,  it is certainly as bright.
  • The focal sentiment is a Recollections stamp inked with Ranger Archival
  • The balloons are an old clear stamp-- possibly Stampendous brand-- inked with ColorBox Glacier Lake
  • The balloon "strings" are actually Pebeo Relief Liner in Faux Lead
  • Dots are Viva Paper Pearls in Anthracite
Cheers!

Mojo flow!

I haven't played with Mojo Monday in months,  though I follow it weekly... well, I couldn't pass up this week's sketch!  Here's my creation:

Here's the terrific sketch:

Supplies and notes:

  • Recollections resist paper
  • Dylusions sprays in a rainbow of colors
  • The strips of inked paper were mounted onto some black Core'dinations
  • Dina Wakley's birdie stamp, embossed on vellum and colored with Distress Crayons
  • Hand-written sentiment using a Zig Emboss Writer and embossed with Recollections EP
  • The sequins were originally white,  now inked with alcohol inks and dabbed, then re-inked.  Try it: it yields a different effect than I expected, but I don't like it... I love it, love it, love it...

Silhouettes

Hello, and welcome to my weekly post for Shopping Our Stash!

This week's stash-busting challenge is to use a silhouette!

So there's my slice of shabby silhouette fried gold... looking forward to seeing what everyone else has in their stashes! For more inspiration, go check out the stash-shopping gals at SOS!

Supplies and notes:
  • I have no idea where the panel with the May-day kids came from... been in my stash for years, and forgotten I'd even had it until I saw it during my search for a silhouette.
  • The DP is BasicGrey, from the infamous Little Black Dress line of years ago... oh yeah-- you bet I have some hoarded stash of that!
  • The large flat flowers are absolutely ancient, from a Prima tube.  The smaller roses were originally a bulk purchase in white, and I sprayed them with Distress Spray in Pumice Stone... like I always say: Pumice Stone is more green than Iced Spruce... maybe I shoulda used Iced Spruce...
  • The diecut music sheet was a leftover from another project.  The die used (Tim's Mixed Media fade) is probably the newest thing I used on this project, and even then it was inadvertent.  This music sheet is probably 100 years old.
  • The ribbon, lace, and stamen are all from my stash and all years old.
  • Frayed Burlap DI was smudged around a bit as well...
  • Liquid Pearls added in the very end
Let's see your silhouette stash, people!

As You See It #140

I really liked this sketch, and though I don't do as many sketch challenges, I thought I'd jump right in to get my mojo goin':

Here's the sketch from As You See It:

Supplies and notes:
  • The paper is all from my scrap bin.  The hearts are from Simple Stories; the grey is Core'dinations; the music paper is 100 years old
  • I stitched it all onto a scrap of black Core'dinations
  • The circle was already punched (Fiskars punch), and the sentiment is a Heidi Swapp diecut.
  • The heart is from a Heidi Swapp sticker pack, and the pink dot is by Kathy Davis
  • Black dots are Viva Paper Pearls in Anthracite
Here's a picture from the middle of a nearby creek.  Husband is a forester and he had to come out to this creek to check on a fallen tree in the watercourse which was blocking a low-water crossing.  My youngest and I drove out to meet him.  Fun to wade through a creek in the woods!  Isn't it beautiful here?
