SOS 430: Slimline cards

Ooh, Donna has cooked up a great challenge for us at Shopping Our Stash! I love the look of slimline cards!  These cards are 8.5"x3.5" but I have to confess: I made mine to fit a narrow envelope that I had, so my card is 8"x4"... hey, I am just being honest!  

Here is my card:

These are my supplies:

• Basic Grey 2013 paper... just a scrap left of this awesome paper!
• Goldenrod cardstock from Tuesday Morning probably in 2019
• Liquid Pearls in Gold Pear from 2011 (!) for the eyes
• Tim Holtz die (Ornate Owl) that I've had for at least three years.
• The sentiment was printed by me ten years ago
• Nuvo Drops in Antique Rose
• Sizzix adhesive on the back of the owl-- I am on my second pack.

SOS 429: Make a mess!

Hello!  This week at Shopping Our Stash, I am the hostess and I challenge you to make a mess!

I was thinking about how often I don't go with my vision because the mess involved is prohibitive.  The supplies that come to mind for me are Color Bursts (which I LOVE) and my gel plates.  The Color Bursts just sometimes dust my desk and somehow I get errant pigment in my glue, and the gel plates just require trips to the sink (which is in the house and I work in the shack).

For this project, I decided on using my gel-plates because I haven't it a long time.  I think my buddy Autumn inspired me the last time I used it months ago.  I always have fun with it, so I did it!  Totally satisfying!

Here is the journal made with the fruits of my mess-making labor:

Supplies:

• Cardboard base made using the back board from a watercolor paper pad
• Fiber from my sting jar
• Ribbon used to attach the fiber was also from my scrap jar.  I coated it with Mod-Podge and pasted it on. I loved that part for some reason!  I felt like I was building a book!
• The gel printed pages were printed on this really thin and smooth Winsor and Newton coated pigment marker paper.  I got in for cheap at Ross years ago and don't really use it.  I thought it would be good for gel printing and I was not disappointed!  
• Ranger gel-printing plate set.  I used the tag-sized plate.
• The paints I used were from many different companies: Liquitex, Daler Rowney, and Tim Holtz Distress, all over a year old for sure.
• Stencils used were also all over two years old: Tim Holtz, The Crafters Workshop, Plaid, Brett Weldele... I think that's it!
• Love and Lemon washi added at the corners.  I got this last year, I believe.  
• So, I printed the papers, then pasted them together and then created little signatures.  I stitched them onto a piece of vintage fabric that was just chillin' on my desk, using vintage grey wool thread which was also chillin' on my desk.
• For the insides of the covers, I just grabbed two pieces of the library-card-art I make nightly in front of the TV.  

This was a very organic process-- I just went with the flow-- so I didn't think much about the "how's"... I just did it!  I will have to do this all again!  Don;t know what I will put in here yet... ideas?

SOS 428: Use three colors (a picture challenge)

Hello, and happy September!

This fortnight's challenge at Shopping Our Stash is a color challenge!  I love these!

This is the color palette (and beautiful picture):

Here's my card based on the palette.

Supplies:

• Heidi Swapp stencil from 6 years ago.  Well, this packet was actually sold as laser-cut papers but I've used them as stencils and they've held up rather well!
• Color Bursts in the following colors: Chartreuse, Wisteria, and Burnt Orange.
• I used some of Tim Holtz Mini Greenery diecut years ago.
• The roses were originally white, bought in bulk a few years ago.  I dyed them using orange alcohol ink.
• I sprayed the entire card using some Tattered Angels shimmering spray acquired years ago from Tuesday Morning,  
• The sentiment banner was made using a scrap of white paper (off-cut from a card) and brushing it using Finetec Gold.  (If you like to watercolor, I recommend buying Finetec metallic paints!  I use them at least once a week.  At least!)  This was popped up using 3M dimensional adhesive.
• As a final touch, Nuvo Drops were added.  I may have omitted them in hindsight.  I don't have as good of luck with Nuvo Drops as I used to with Liquid Pearls...
• Mounted the whole panel onto a scrap of some of Tim Holtz' paper.  I bought this single sheet years ago and it's kind of a nice textured grey.

SOS 426: KISS (Keep It Simple, Sister!)

Teammate Donna has cooked up the perfect challenge for us: Keep It Simple, Sister!

The world is so crazy,  a nice simple challenge was what I needed... thanks, Donna!

Here's my simple card:

Supplies:

• Rubbernecker Stamps owl "Preston" bought in 2018 at the stamp expo in Sacramento, CA... never been inked.  Hard to believe because he is so cute!
• Sentiment from a Richard Garay pack that had a beard... I bought it last year from Tuesday Morning. 
• I used Jane Davenport Mermaid Markers with a waterbrush (because the markers leak now...) in Reef and Sand
• I also used Tombow markers from my only Tombow set: the pastels! (I almost bought more Tombows Saturday but told myself NO since I don't use the ones I have enough... now can I???)
• Also used a couple Spectrum Noir pens for the steam and the shadowing to balance Preston.  I love the grey set of Spectrum Noirs, and recommend them to everyone.   I purchased mine years ago from JoAnn's (I think) but saw some sets at Tuesday  Morning recently for $5.99... good buy!
• Glossy Accents for the eyes
• Fiskars clipper for the corners

SOS 425: Black and white

Hi, folks!

The current challenge at SOS is to use black and white.   Simple!  I definitely have stash!

Came up with some simple cards to use up some old papers. Here is my favorite:

Materials:

• Paper from the individual sheet-racks at Hobby Lobby (I think...)
• Sentiment was one of the first things cut wet my Cricut Explore Air a couple years ago.   I was experimenting with writing on the screen then cutting. 
• Tarnished Brass Distress Glitter applied with Glossy Accents

SOS 422: UFOs

The challenge at Shopping Our Stash this week is to use UFOs... not like spaceships... but...

I have plenty.  Like, an embarrassing amount of UFOs.

Here are the three cards produced by using UFOs from a few months ago:

This is what I started with (my UFOs):

Supplies:

• The mermaid is a Jane Davenport stamp... one of the last stamp sets I purchased.  Now that I carve stamps, I don't buy as much... but I couldn't resist her.
• I colored her with Jane Davenport aquapastels.  They are not soft and smooth like oil pastels-- they are more like a hard chalk stick, but they blend beautifully with water.  I bought these probably a year or two ago.
• Glossy Accents by Ranger added as water droplets.
• Patterend paper by who-knows.  I've had it for a few years.  I want to say Graphic 45, but not sure.  My teammate Chana may know-- she loves Graphic 45.
• I added Teresa Collins modelling paste through a Hero Arts stencil.  I blended the modeling paste with Tiffanylou's Blue Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals for the cool color.  The paste I bought years ago, the Magicals are also from years ago, and the stencil is from around 2 years ago.  It was one of my most recent stencil purchases.
• The blue background paper was from a bulk purchase in 2019.
• I used Tim Holtz Mini Greenery dies for the seaweed, cut in the past from Tim Holtz metallic kraft-core.
• The pearls were from the Michael's dollar bins in 2016
• The flowers are by Prima from like 5 years ago.  I rubbed them with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush. (I love that stuff-- highly recommend picking some up if you like to add some cool vintage accents to your pieces.  FYI, I keep a folded up baby wipe in my can of it to keep it from firming up too much.)
• I used silver Stickles on the kraft-based card
• Tim Holtz metallic quotations (the white/silver)
• Gold quotations from the dollar store about two years ago

SOS 421: Stuck on you!

This challenge at Shopping Our Stash is hosted by yours truly... I just have a stash of stickers that I can't seem to part with,  yet I don't use them! It's time!!!
