Shopping Our Stash: Card Shark

Welcome to another week of fun in the Blogland Sun... join me for a vacation to Blogland Vegas with the Shopping Our Stash people for this week's challenge:

Card Shark
We want you to use playing cards as inspiration for your creation.  Think hearts, clubs, spades, diamonds... or you can maybe stretch the boundary like me and use what you think of when you picture a playing card... (that's me... always against the grain!)  And, of course, visiting the Shopping Our Stash sharks will inspire you!

Here's my little project:

Appologies to my teamies... I have a friend who recently got into playing Bingo and her birthday was last week, so I had Bingo on the brain!  But to be fair, I do have a reject-project that was my first go... you can check it out below and then you'll forgive me for straying from the traditional card theme!

Supplies and notes:
  • The beautiful backgrond panel is from Creative Imaginations, 2012.  I roughed-up the edges and added Frayed Burlap DI
  • The bingo cards are cut from my only Tim Holtz paper pad.  It's funny: I love all of his stuff, but I find that I don't use his ephemera or paper... I believe this is because I like to use my own truly vintage stuff.  Anyway, I edged those babies with Frayed Burlap as well.  They were sewn to the background panel just at the top using a variety of machine stitches
  • The dots on the bingo cards are from DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush, added by dotting the end of an old pencil into it
  • The gems are from my stash, inked with Ranger Mushroom AI, adhered with Glossy Accents
  • The cute ribbon is a score from a booth at the local quilt show this weekend... I love it... I only have 3 yards... wahhhhhh...
  • The Adage Ticket is from Tim's collection.  I inked the edge with Frayed Burlap and it didn't do enough for my eye so I then daubed through a Heidi Swapp grid stencil and used a wet paintbrush to add a little aging.
  • I used Tim's technique for Shattered Stains for the crown which required the use of Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint plus Aged Mahogany and Orange Marmalade Distress Stain on a grungeboard crown that has been in my collection for years and years
  • I typed "Bingo Queen" onto an old catalog card and edged it with Stickles
Phew!  That's a lot of stuff!  Thanks for visiting, and I look forward to seeing where inspiration will take you for this challenge!  See you over at SOS

Oh... here's the reject. No idea what I was thinking.  This should be the Design Team posterboy for "When Shopping Your Stash Goes Wrong":

Now, I don't understand why you didn't like your second project, I think it's beautiful, I specially like the little squares with the word JACK, awesome.

  5. Your card looks great, a bit shabby chic or vintage like, I think you were right to not stick the elements flat to the card, it gives your design a worn, aged look. When I saw the challenge theme I thought I have nothing to use. But wonder if I have some old stickers in a box somewhere that would fit the playing/games theme? I'll see what I can find once the weekend is here....

  6. Those loose layers slay me! Literally, this is something I love so much and my mom and local friend hate! They want to glue everything down and I'm like "let it hang free!" So I'm totally digging these stitched repetitive cards - the coolest thing! And your Jack is quite colorful! The concept is great, maybe paint over the blue. ;0 You're a mess!
