SOS: Happy Valentine's Day

Welcome to another week of Shopping Our Stash!  This week we are saying: He Love Me, He Loves Me Not... let's see a Valentine's project!

This may look ultra-cheesy, but it's for my little niece, who is not quite 3 and loves horses!

As so often happens, pictures just don't do justice for glitter and mirrored paper!  The horse's mane is very mirrored red, and the glitter is fabulous!  And the Magicals are very shimmery...

Supplies and notes:

• Colorbok diecut pack (the horse and the hearts) from years ago-- my mom sent them to me.
• Watercolor striped background using mixed ink: Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals in Rudolph's Red Nose (shimmery), Cotton Candy Pink(shimmery), Poppin' Pink (flat fabio); Color Bursts in Violet
• The circle was punched with a die from Autumn, thanks!  I use these all the time!
• Multi-colored Stickles
• Ancient Valentine's stamp inked with Dina Wakley Mixed Media Palette in Ruby

What's not there: I wanted to add sequins and gems, but I think she'd pick them off...

From the sketchbook...

Supplies:

• Sketch done with Micron pens in a Canson Mix Media sketchbook
• Coloring done with Rexell Derwent watercolor pencils
• Background blended with DI in Stormy Sky with water droplets added for interest
• "I'm sorry" from my book-clipping box

Another Language Warning!

Not so bad but... cover your eyes, Autumn!  The a-word is up ahead!

Supplies:

• Multiple DOx's inked onto my mat and blended/brushed together with a Jane Davenport brush pen onto some thin (read "cheap") watercolor paper
• Silver DCWV cardstock cut and ripped to compliment the main panel
• Grey sequins from my stash

Drinking coffee...

The focal of this card was made many moons ago, and it sat in my unfinished project stash... until now!

Supplies:

• Cup made from an old library catalog card, popped up with 3M dimensional tape
• Saying typed on my old typewriter and inked with Wilted Violet DOx
• Background panel made within the past two weeks (during THIS session) using Tim Holtz  resist paper and the following powdered pigments:
• Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals in Milk Chocolate Brown
• Color Bursts in Terre Verde, Lemon Yellow, and Chartreuse
• I also inked the edges of this panel with Walnut Stain DI
• The whole panel was mounted up with 3M dimensional tape
• Seam binding bought by the yard at my fave scrapbook store in Paradise, CA
• Seth Apter Trifecta dies used to cut the circles from some of Tim Holtz stencil packaging. I inked the edges with Walnut Stain DI.
• The card base is heavy kraft that I cut using a lot of pressure with my scoring blade to give the ragged look... although you can't appreciate this from the pix...

Aloha... East side Maui

Good morning!  I say "East-side Maui" because this tag evokes more of that rustic-remote vibe from the least-populated region of coastal Maui. 

Layers of fiber...

Just look at those layers!

Oh, the irony...

Supplies:

• Ranger base tag painted with a mixture of white iquitex gesso and some generic brown acrylic paint scraped on with an old hotel room-key.
• Cardboard panel from some packaging painted at the same time in the same fashion.
• "Aloha" written with a DecoArt paint pen
• Twine from stash
• Yarn sent last year by the fiber-lovin' (and fiber-sharin') Andrea at Snapping Monsters.
• The flowers were made by using the sponge-tip of Distress Paints in Picked Raspberry and Broken China on to old typewriter paper.  When dry, I used the DecoArt paint pen to draw the flowers
• The faux water droplets are Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
• The last thing I added was the greenery... which is Mini Greenery by Tim Holtz cut from some paper that Autumn at Sew Paper Paint sent a year or two ago.

There are a few things unique about this project that make it special to me:

• I thought of my oldest daughter the whole time while making it because she loves Hawaii, and we visited Maui together a year ago
• Parts are from two inspiring crafty friends (Andrea and Autumn... huge hugs and thanks)
• There is no black on this project!  (Now, that doesn't make it special because I love black, but it definitely was a choice I made, and I don't know why, to stay away from black on this project).

SOS: Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to... everyone!  This week at Shopping Our Stash we are encouraging you to create birthday cards!  We cardmakers have a special sense of pride in sharing a hand-made birthday greeting, so we want to encourage you to replenish your stash for 2018!

So dig out your balloon stickers, cake stamps, and cupcake paper... and use it!

This card is for my husband's first cousin, once removed... I just had to google that relationship.  It's my husband's cousin's son!  He's going to be three in April.  We really want to stay in touch, even though they are across the country.

Supplies:

• The fox, tree, and balloons are from an October Afternoon sticker sheet, 2012
• The floral paper in the background is by American Crafts, 2010
• The yellow die-cut circle is My Mind's Eye paper, 2013
• The lined paper is by Simple Stories, 2013
• The "3" is a cute cloth-covered Thicker from 2010
• I accented the balloons and the fox's eyes with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic from 2010... it still works, but it gets little bubbles in it easily... I don't use this as much as Glossy Accents, but that's the purpose of Shopping Our Stash-- use what you have! (Well, or I could also toss this, but it works fine for what I'm keeping it for!  See... hoarding...)

Cherish Our Friendship

Another project using the background papers I made last week during craft-therapy-- I'm trying to use up the stack of backgrounds I have created/accumulated/hoarded!

Supplies:

• The background panel is Cosmo Cricket watercolor resist paper colored with Color Bursts in Sepia, Orchid, Fuchsia, and Merlot
• Century-old sheet music
• Circle die-cut (die from Autumn, thanks!) From some leftover watercolor paper-- the ink on this is Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals
• Circle die mounted atop a "nest" of mixed coordinating threads
• Vintage lick-and-stick stars
• Tim's paper doll dancer (I love this girl)
• Tim's Small Talk stickers.  I made lists inside the covers of this set of the nouns, verbs, and adjectives available so I can quickly come up with phrases!  I am such a dork.

Green ATCs

Had some fun making ATCs this morning:

Supplies:

• Library catalog cards but to ATC size (2.5"x3.5")
• Backgrounds embossed with Tim's Scribbles stamp and Recollections EP in black
• Colored with Color Bursts in Pthalo Green and Terre Verde
• Trees cut on first ATC from Heidi Swamp paper pad using Tim's Treeline die
• Stickles in Mercury Glass added for snowy effect
• Second ATC has Tim's Tattered Flowers
• Tim's Paper Dolls
• Sentiments are from my collection of old book snippits

I will give the first one with trees to my friend Kelly who is a forester, and I will send the best friend ATC to my BFF Sarah.  She always like the junk I send her, and she keeps it all displayed at her house :)

Aloha with warmth...

Kind of funny, considering I'm out on the shack on a snowy day!

Cling-wrap birthday cards

Tried something new today!

I wanted to play with cling-wrap (prompted by the current CAS Mix Up) since I don't think I ever have, and I thought (lightbulb) why not try with alcohol ink?!

Oooohhh...

Ahhhh...

I think these turned out cool!

Supplies and notes:

• So, I used different plastic wraps on these, and it made a difference!  I used regular cling-wrap on the first one, and I used the package wrapping from craft supplies (which was not as crunchy as the regular cling-wrap)
• I used old photo paper-- NOTE: the newer photo paper I used for pictures does NOT work as well as this old stuff-- it must be unstable.  
• Technique: I dropped ink all over the photo paper and grabbed the balled-up wrap and dabbed it everywhere.  
• Tim Holtz sentiment stamp inked with Ranger Archival ink in Jet Black.

This tag was made a few days ago during craft-therapy time... it was late in the day after I had been working on memorial stuff and I just needed to do some crafting!

• I found the rusty moon at a thrift store across the county last year
• The lad is from Tim's first paper doll set-- this kid always looks like such a brat to me!  
• Old licky-sticky stars found at the elementary school

• Recollections brads at the corners of the panel
• Ranger tag base inked with DI in Vintage Photo
• Watered-down Liquitex gesso droplets sprinkled across the project

No small thing

This card will go to one of the people who helped with my MIL's memorial.  Everyone was so helpful, but when we thanked them, they were all so humble about it, but in this situation, there were no small acts of kindness!
